The e-book edition of Centrifugal Force is one of those we’ll be putting on sale for the Black Friday-Cyber Monday shopping holiday. This was my first book, published in 2012, and was not steampunk, but near-future speculative fiction. In it, I ask the following question: assuming that America continues its unfortunate path from liberty to despotism, what can we ordinary citizens do to stop it? My answer was (and still is) technology, the kind of innovation that allows us to keep our lives private and away from the prying eyes of the State. (That’s ironic, considering this will be reposted on Facebook, which conspiracy theorists see as the CIA’s ultimate spying tool.)
I wrote this book before the conflicts and controversies of recent years when I assumed that ordinary people of all races, creeds, and persuasions could and would work together for the betterment of the country. By the way, I still believe that’s possible! Of course, in life, nothing turns out the way we plan it, and the computer hacker heroes of Centrifugal Force find that their revolution takes a somewhat different turn than they’d expected. When I first wrote the book I assumed it would be the first of a series. I have an outline and the initial chapter of a sequel, which I would love to finish someday if my writing ever provides an income of any sort. In any case, check it out, especially my fellow libertarians. The book is much more than its message, however. It’s got the quirky yet likable characters I enjoy writing about.
