It’s an unoriginal title, I’ll admit. But the sentiment is real.
Years ago I recall an acquaintance who that his wife was “his best friend” which provoked a bit of good-natured ribbing from the guys he was talking to – myself included. It’s not that the average guy doesn’t love his wife, but men and women tend to have very different personalities and priorities. “Friendship” just didn’t seem to be a good word for marital relationships that all too often become adversarial. When I met Arlys, I had to eat those words, because she really breaks the mold. I can be myself when I’m with her because she’s just as eccentric as I am. At times she has a caustic wit, but don’t let that fool you. In reality, she’s one of the most caring people you’ll ever meet. There’s nobody in the world who can make me laugh as often as she does. She not only cares about my crazy dream to be a successful writer, she participates in it. Best of all, after a long day of work, I always look forward to seeing her.
Happy Valentine’s Day to my wife and best friend, Arlys-Allegra.
